Looking for food...

I decided to help Gail find some dinner last weekend. We are 65 miles from a supermarket when we stay at the Loch Torridon cottage, so my hunting instincts come to the fore.

First, I tracked down some mussels. (Now that I'm getting on a bit, I do find that hunting is easier when the prey is fixed to a rock).

The sheep looked delicious, but I'm not allowed to chase them. Something to do with a local farmer being handy with the shotgun apparently. And anyway, they can run away pretty fast, those sheep - longer legs then me, you know....

Now, much as I love bones, even I would have to admit that this skull I found maybe wouldn't make for a filling meal. (By the way, can any budding anatomist out there tell me if it's an ex-sheep or an ex-deer?)

Finally, in the woods, I found some of these yellow fungus-y thingies. Lots and lots of them in fact. Not my cup of tea at all, but Gail was unaccountably excited.

Back at the cottage, I had a little snooze whilst Gail, drenched in super-strength insect repellent AND wearing a midge net over her head, went out into the garden to pick some more human-only stuff (cherries and blackcurrants).

Well Gail seemed to think we'd gathered a fine old feast.

But I checked the goods out quite carefully.

And then decided to opt for a liquid dinner....

Java loves cherries!! We Scotties have never really had them. Mom thinks they look delish

To answer your question about the water - Carrleigh loves to be groomed and bathed - she is the quintessential girly girl. Piper is very patient about being groomed, but is a little testy when it comes to bathing. Lilly hates it all, especially bathing. Mom has to put her in one side of the sink and run the water in the other side so the little princess doesn't get her feet wet. Sometimes Mom has to drag Lilly off the porch to do her outside duties if it is raining. Silly girl, she's afraid of an umbrella!

Have a wonderful evening, our friend.

XOXO

I guess the Scotch will take the hunger pains away, but probably bring you new ones in the morning!

Better go find the store even though the berries look great!

I like fruits! Especially in biscuits. But you right, shouldn't there be a petshop there. Seems you did all the hard work and got none of the rewards!

Ciao Hamish!

I, Lucia, enjoy fruits of all kinds, but la mia ragazza says that I am just a silly kid who will try to put anything that doesn't move or isn't nailed down into my mouth. And she's right! Heeeeeee!!!

I hope your liquid refreshments were squisito, il mio caro amico!

Tanti baci!

Hey Hamish
This Hunter-Gatherer stuff gives us a lot of food for thought! The two of you sure make a good team. Tell us: Who's the hunter and who's the gatherer?. Perhaps that skull was the gatherer who slipped up...who knows. What an adventure, nevertheless- (especially after the hooch)

Hmmm. I'm thinking if she made a yummy pie out of that fruit stuff with a tasty buttery crust, you'd go for that in a tail wag! Anyways, the liquid dinner would be great with some popcorn on the side. That's my tall alpha females fave dinner...bourbon and popcorn!

Oh my doggie! Mussels. Mushrooms. And cherries and blackcurrents! You've made Moma's mouth water and she's talking about renewing her passport. She even muttered she was sure we'd love the mussels, but she may not share. (All we can count on getting is the skin from the grilled fish, but Moma has figured out that we are rather cat-like in our culinary preferences. FISHY stuff is the very best!)

Pee eSs. Can you eat the mussels now? "We" can only eat them in months have have an "r" in the name. Silly rule, but it's true.

Hi Hamish: I heard from you today that you are having a lonesome day and I just wish I could be there to keep you company. How about if you go visit your grandma and grandpa for a while, just while Gail is busy.

Hugs and Kisses,

Stella

Now Hamish, you take it easy on the old Talisker....that stuff'll knock you out....oh, wait....too late!
Did you see our post from the other day? We went to St Combs! We passed the RAF Banff memorial like a squillion times and thought of you each time :o)
We get 'human food' too...Mum just picked lots of raspberries to put in our food and soon the blackberries will be ready. She is too scared to pick mushrooms though but we get those chanterelle thingys growing here too (and magic mushrooms in the park....whatever they are) We love the idea of your prey becoming more sedentary the older you get, useful and v.funny!
Happy Saturday friend :D (wow, can't actually believe a week has passed since the wedding....thank you for playing your part, you looked very distinguished as usual.)

Hamish, you didn't drink the whole bottle did you? Please reassure us you didn't!

Looking at the date of this post we see a few days have passed...... nothing from you since. You must be suffering with a Mother of headaches. Our advice is take more water with it next time.

PS. We typed this quietly so as not to disturb you.

Hi Hamish
We are home to 'dry out' and now we see you with the whisky bottle!
Oh dear - we have only been gone a week and this happens.
We just popped over to say Hi - with any luck we will get away again soon.
